Zener Card Diary March 19, 2020
This next Zener test was performed around 11pm on the 18th and went until after midnight. It took about an hour to do the 10 tests last night. I took my time with it and shuffled the deck well each time.
I did all 10 tests using 65 cards. In between tests I took breaks. It was past midnight when I had finished, and I didn’t get a chance to do it anymore.
During the test, I was trying not to think about it. I had Youtube videos playing during the test. It was intentional because it would divide my focus a little. I think this allowed my unconscious to become more activate.
Method Recap
Let’s recap the method. I take all the aces and the first trump out of my French Tarot deck (you could use any other tarot deck). I place the cards on the table. This is so I can see what guess I am making. I draw cards and form piles underneath each card as I preform each guess. Afterward, I look at the cards in each pile to see how many hits I got. I count them up and calculate a percentage of hits for that test.
Remember, I am not guessing individual cards, I am guessing the suit or trump. Like Zener cards, there are 5 symbols, and that’s it. In this bootstrapped Zener card deck there is an equal number of each suit and trumps to make 5 sets of symbols to guess. Eat set has 13 cards to make 65 cards to guess.
Having used this method a few times I can see an advantage over my previous method. I can’t tell what my previous guesses were. Once the cards start to pile up, I can’t tell how many cards are in what pile. Because of this, there is little sensory leak, at least from what I can gather.
Unconsciousness
This test seems to tap into unconscious intuition. During the test I had a video on in the background, it helped divide my attention and help activate my unconscious focus. While doing the test it felt like I was placing cards at random with mild patterns. Some of the results were startling. One test gave me a plus 30% hit rate. That was pretty high for someone barely paying attention to what each guess was.
Did the video in the background affect the results? Now I have to consider what is happening in my surroundings and control for that. Or maybe I don’t, I am not sure.
Results
The results from the first test are graphed out bellow. The graph reflects only the amount of hits and the hit percentage out of 65 cards in 10 attempts.
From the graph what I can see is that every 4th attempt I scored over a 30% hit rate. My guess is that if I would have gone to 12 attempts I would have a high hit % on the last attempt.
What I got from this test is that I should try at least 12 attempts to see if this pattern re-emerges. But what’s causing this to happen? What is going on in between the high spikes of high hit percentage? Is the psychic ability on a cool down? Does ESP have to charge? Is it a normal distribution pattern from the number of cards?
I am faced with options. Do I try another session using 65 cards with 12 tests? Or should I change to 25 cards and do more tests to see what happens? What should I do for the background noise? Should I try music, keep the video playing, or have nothing on?
This indeed is far more complex than I had ever thought. How exciting!
