How a Crystal Ball Works

I have the good fortune (pun intended) to ask the question do crystal balls really work?

“I heard them tell me that this land of dreams was now. I told them I had ridden shooting star and said I’ d show them how.”

The lyric from Ozzy Osbourne’s song Over the Mountain expresses what I think of owning a crystal ball. Yes, the crystal ball works, and in this article, I will show you how.

The Crystal Ball

Before we get too far over the mountain lets talk about the crystal ball itself. The crystal ball is what it says it is, a crystal shaped into a ball. The one I have is a Large Magical Glass Sphere by Lo Scarabeo published by Llewellyn. It has significant weight to it and is much heavier than it looks.

The crystal ball is a magnificent piece of technology. Much of the visual effects of the crystal ball can be explained by the science of optics. The crystal ball has a certain refractive index, and as a result, omnidirectional images from within and on the surface of the ball.

When you are using a crystal ball you are scrying. This is an act of clairvoyance and divination. Scrying is the act of seeing into an object to detect some kind of supernatural vision. It just so happens that the crystal ball is the perfect tool for this gazing act.

Preparing and Using The Crystal Ball

When you get a crystal ball it will most likely come with instructions. Mine came with a booklet that explained how to use the ball and interpret the images you will see. I followed the instructions in the booklet to prepare myself and the glass sphere.

What I did was clean the glass sphere with rubbing alcohol and a cloth. I spoke a phrase known only to me. This is so that I could bind the glass sphere to me. I mediated with the glass sphere while in complete darkness before I gazed into it.

What I find interesting is how sensitive the glass sphere is to the light around you. Because it is omnidirectional, the ball reflects any light sources around you. Even if you think you are in complete darkness there could still be a light source near you.

Once your eyes have adjusted the ball will begin to smoke. It will look like it’s on fire. The flames and smoke were black and blue for me, but it could be different for you. I saw light trails emanating from the glass sphere. It was as if I could see the flow of energy going right into the sphere.

My walls started melting away and became static. I saw shooting stars dance across the table. The ball looked like the planet Jupiter, swirling with marbled colours. The marbling finally took shape and gave me my clairvoyant images.

I saw a sewer grate, a golden and brown box, and a man in a grey suit who was with a woman in a purple dress. The two of them were running away from something. Finally, I saw a large apartment complex in a park surrounded by nature. The meaning of these images remains unknown to me.

Unique Experiences

Your experience with the crystal ball may be different than what I have explained in this article. I can’t say for sure if the visual effects are a result of our human biology or not. If it is then you may experience the same visual effects under similar conditions. If you can train your gazing, focus, and relax then you may see what I have seen.

Aside

Here is an aside that is related to the skill of gazing. Before I got my glass sphere I had a chance to practice sigil magic. To charge your sigil you can gaze into it intensely. As you focus your gaze onto the sigil it will morph, vibrate, and change. Some parts of the sigil will disappear, and the world outside of the sigil becomes hazy. This same intense focus is how you gaze into the glass sphere or crystal. Knowing what you know now would you get a crystal ball?
